What is Thanksgiving?
It is traditionally a day for families and
friends to get together for a special meal. The meal often includes a turkey,
stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, pumpkin pie, and vegetables.
Thanksgiving Day is a time for many people to give thanks for what they have.
Thanksgiving Day parades are held in some cities
and towns on or around Thanksgiving Day. Some parades or festivities also mark the
opening of the Christmas shopping season. Some people have a four-day weekend
so it is a popular time for trips and to visit family and friends.
Most government offices, businesses, schools and
other organizations are closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Debating
Opinions
and preferences
I
think…
In
my opinion…
I’d
rather…
The
way I see it…
As
far as I’m concerned…
If
it were up to me…
I’m
pretty sure that…
I
suppose…
It
is fairly certain that…
I’m
convinced that…
I
honestly feel that…
I
strongly believe that…
Without
a doubt…
In
my view…
Agreeing
Disagreeing
I
couldn’t agree more!
I
(totally) disagree with…
I agree with you entirely.
I hate to disagree with you, but …
That’s
( absolutely ) true!
I’m inclined to disagree with that.
Exactly.
I’m afraid I don’t agree…
I’d go along with you on that/ there.
I wouldn’t go along with / on that / there…
So do I. / Neither do I.
You can’t be serious!
Well, you’ve got a point there.
Don’t you think it would be better …
There’s something in that, I suppose.
The problem with your point of view is that…
I guess you could be right.
I’m not sure you’re right there.
Well,
possibly.
Yes, all right, but don’t you think…
Let’s face it, the truth is….
You
must be joking!
How on earth can you say such a thing?
Stating Arguments
First, …
That’s why I think…
Second,…
It seems to me …
To start with…
I suppose …
For example…
Finally, …
Let me give you an example…
All in all, I believe that…
It is important to say that…
Summing up, I can say that….
I should like to repeat that…
Weighing the pros and cons, I come to the conclusion
that…
I would like to add…
Another important issue is …
On the one hand…, on the other hand…
This proves that…
Take the case of…

Writing Phonetics
Go to Writing Phonetics and transcribe the following tongue twisters:
Tiny Trevor takes twenty two and two thirds of a second to tie two tall tigers to two tall trees
How long does Tiny Trevor take to tie two tall tigers to two tall trees?
She sells seashells by the seashore
The shells she sells are surely seashells
So if she sells shells on the seashore,
I'm sure she sells seashore shells
